We all love the look and feel of soft, rosy plump lips, but you don’t have to spend a lot on the latest products to get them. Instead here are three quick DIY recipes that you can do in 5-10 mins max for the same lovely results (without any unwanted chemical nasties )
This one is delicious, and will help you get rid of all that dry skin winter brought about. You will need honey, lemon and sugar.
- Squeeze around 1 teaspoon of honey in a little jar/small plate
- Add in a drop or two of lemon juice (optional*)
- Add around a teaspoon of brown sugar and mix it all together with your finger
- Once you have a paste, you can just rub it gently (seriously don’t go overboard) on your lips and wash off!
Your lips will feel soft and fresh, and with regular use, the lemon can help lighten your lips if you want to fight discoloration. However, make sure to follow up with a lip balm and don’t forget spf before heading out.
*Lemon can be a controversial ingredient, since it is a natural product, and it is hard to measure its acidity and each individual’s reaction to it. So please, do your own research and only use it if you feel comfortable
The super softy
A tried and tested one, this one is super easy to make, from ingredients that most people have in their kitchen.
You will need a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil and some brown sugar, mix it all together to form a paste, and again gently rub it over your lips. Wash off to reveal super soft lips!
You may even forgo lip balm when using this one, since the olive oil should feel quite moisturizing already, but if you have super dry lips that need some extra tlc, do what is best for you.
The special one
Now here is one for those days when you want some extra pampering. This one will feel super luxurious, and will also look super cute, once you make it.
You will need some argan oil, dried/crushed rose petals and some Himalayan pink salt (You can also go with brown sugar here if you prefer, but you will not get the same visual result).
So to start off, you need to put some argan oil in your little jar, next mix in some of the himalayan pink salt ( crush it first, so it’s more finely milled, for that luxurious feel), then you add in your crushed rose petals. Mix it all together and add some vanilla essence to finish it off, for that lovely vanilla scent.
Since this one takes a little more time, I like to store it in a jar and then do another batch once it’s over. With the right little decorative jars, this can also make an adorable little present for a friend.
And if you reached the end, here is a little bonus one for those of you who do not like manual exfoliation.
You can use a bit of crushed/squashed papaya, mixed with a tiny bit of honey and leave it on your lips for 2 to 5 mins! The papain enzyme which is found in the papaya fruit has exfoliating benefits and will therefore help you achieve sweet glowy lips.
I hope these quick recipes will help, and that you will try them out! Feel free to share your favourite DIY recipes with me in the comments below! And for your overall health, please remember to drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
