So how many of you are turning to Netflix for comfort, during these trying times? Haha, I know how easy it is to just lay around, devoid of motivation and just waste the days away… snacking. While this may help you to cope, you don’t really get much out of this and you usually end up not feeling too great about yourself.
That’s why I want to give you a few tips on how you can use this extra time to take care of yourself, so that you come out of it looking and feeling better..and don’t worry you may not even have to head out to get any of the items/ingredients mentioned here.
1.Time to oil up
While on normal ‘busy’ days, we might want to avoid that oily/greasy effect, being confined is the perfect time to oil up and nourish your skin while napping. Whether you suffer from dry skin or brittle hair, this is the perfect time to slather up some coconut oil all over. If you do not have coconut oil at home, you can go for olive oil which also works great and is bound to give you more supple skin and softer hair. Heck, if you have someone at home with you, now is also a great time to convince them into giving you an oil massage…relaxing right?
2.Let your natural nails shine
I’m a big nail polish addict and I love to change my nail colour every week, however now is the time to give your nails a break. Leaving your nails polish-free for some time, or in between polish applications, will prevent them from yellowing and will help them to look healthier overall. For some extra pampering, you can also do nail baths, by letting your hands and nails sit in a bowl of rose water, or even olive oil for 10 to 15 minutes before washing them. Take the time to really massage them and give yourself a couple minutes to breathe in the scents of your favourite candle, to make this experience even nicer.
3.No wax, no problem
Well…I am not really too bothered about body hair when I know I’m going to be home for weeks, but if you usually get waxed professionally and the body hair is starting to bother you. You can try sugaring! What is sugaring you might ask? Well it’s a bit like making your own wax. Here are the steps to making your sugaring mixture:
- In a pot or saucepan, mix two cups of sugar with a quarter cup of water and a quarter cup of lemon juice
- Boil the mixture for around 5 to 7 minutes and then transfer it to a different bowl
- Let it cool and harden for around 20-25 minutes
After a quick finger/temperature test to see if it’s not too hot, you can apply it, let it sit and harden slightly on your skin and pull off as you would with wax. Needless to say that this one is right up there on the list, to help make you feel better. Since it’s pretty warm right now, how about doing a nice refreshing mask for your skin to feel hydrated? An easy one to make is the cucumber mash mask. If you have a blender, just cut up some pieces of green cucumbers and blend them to a pulp. You can also add in some aloe vera into the mixture if you have that at home. Once done, you can apply this to your cleaned face for 10 mins and then wash it off. Your face should look instantly more toned and fresh.
I love having soft feet, the feeling of soft soles always makes me happier, but I usually don’t have time to soak my feet. If you are like me, here is another way to pass the time while watching your favourite show. Fill up a container, big enough to soak your feet in with some warm water and again you may add in some of your favourite oils/essential oils. After soaking for 10 minutes, get down to scrubbing! Scrub the soles of your feet with a pumice stone to get them super soft. Next you can do one last scrub for your feet and legs with a mixture of sugar and olive oil. Wash it off and moisturize for baby soft feet!
So there you have it, 5 simple ways you can make yourself feel better during the times we are currently facing.. and the main ingredient you can use is just some simple olive oil! If you also want to use that extra time to make your own lip scrub, check out the article here.
…oh and one more tip..go on and take that shower…it will make you feel better..better than lounging around I promise!
