Nothing quite ties in a room together, like finding the perfect scent. For me, the right scent does more than just freshen up a room, it can actually build a whole environment of wellness. You know, like when you get into a spa, and the scent kind of leads you in and helps you calm down, as you ease down slowly on a chair.
I have always loved candles for that, because instead of diffusers, they always brought on a more cosy ambiance. But I had been keeping off them for a while, after reading more and more about the negatives of paraffin wax candles. So I was delighted when I first found out about Lara’s candles on instagram, since this brand actually uses ‘all natural soy wax’, is made right here in Mauritius…and also very importantly, smells absolutely divine! The Scents: Little Whiffs of Pleasure
While there are several options available on the website, it can be quite hard to choose and sadly we can’t smell through our screens yet. So the next best thing is to read the description and see which combination you tend to navigate towards. For me, the most appealing one was Sunset Nectar (creamy and exotic), but since it was sold out, I went towards the other things I love : dessert and summer. Both of these were translated beautifully in the scents ‘ All a Dream’ (chocolate, almond, and a fruity kick) and ‘Ocean Blue’ (white musk and vanilla).
What you need to know is that these babies, don’t even need to be lit, for the scent to strike you. This will happen as soon as you open the jar.
Ocean Blue
The first thing I did when I got home, was to open up ‘Ocean Blue’ and leave it on a shelf in my room. While it was not overpowering, I was met with lovely little whiffs of this pleasant scent every time I walked by. Ocean Blue is quite light, and really does remind me of summer, since it gives off that light and breezy vibe. It feels quite fresh, and you can definitely pick up the floral notes. Think little white dress, or white linen and a nice breezy summer day for this one. Perfect to leave close to a window, while the breeze gently carries the scent in.

All A Dream
My guilty gourmand pleasure. If you are unfamiliar with the fragrance world, gourmand reflects scents that lean more on the sweet, candy or cake side like caramel, vanilla sugar or chocolate. Fragrances that feel edible are usually those that are described as gourmand, and this one…definitely made me want to sink my teeth in it for a good bite ( Don’t worry I did not taste it). Lara’s All a Dream smells like the perfect dessert, and if you want your room to smell irresistibly sweet and comforting, this is the one you should go for. It was also the more potent one out of the two, so if you really want something that is more heavily scented, it would be the better option.
The Packaging: Elegantly Eco-Friendly
This brand really hits the spot with its packaging, because not only does it make the effort to be sustainable but it’s also really beautiful. Besides taking an eco-conscious approach with the product itself, the packaging (made of either glass or tin), is recyclable/re-usable. Once your candle is all burned out, you can use these little jars for storage or cute decor. They are also delivered in a box, wrapped in lovely paper (no plastic). The only downside is the business card which I think is in some type of laminated plastic paper. I would have preferred it to be on seed paper or even recycled paper.

The jars as mentioned above, are currently available in a clear frosted glass format, or a matte black tin. Both look great and I find the matte black to be more aesthetically pleasing, but it’s up to you to find the one that will best fit your personal decor.
The Service: Simple and Pleasant
What can really kill a good product, is the lack of good service, and I’m happy to say that the service was in fact even better than expected. The website, feels clean, beautifully laid out and is easy to order from. You can pay via juice by MCB (which a lot of us appreciate) and pick among 3 options to get your order (either pick up from Plaine Magnien, postage or home delivery). The person I picked my order from was sweet, and all my messages with the owner of the brand were friendly, and really made me want to buy from her again. There was also a very nice little sample included in my order for Black Forest (which is not a scent I gravitate towards, unfortunately, but would be great for those of you who prefer darker, more woody scents or want to create that brooding mood). You may also find a nice little seed paper, which was a new discovery for me and that I have yet to try, but will keep you updated on either my facebook page or personal instagram when I do.

To sum it up:
- The choice of scents is varied enough, so that you can find one that fits your liking
- The packaging and the candles are both eco-friendly and beautiful
- Some scents can be heavier than others, so maybe message her first to get more info on each one
- The candles are made with toxic-free soy wax, wooden wicks and come in either a matte black tin jar or a frosted glass jar.
- The scents are beautiful and you may not even need to burn the candle, for you to smell it
Well, that was my little take on Lara’s candles, which I would strongly recommend to anyone in search of high-quality, well-scented, and eco-friendly candles. They retail for Rs 325 to Rs 560, depending on the type of candle you choose (at the time of this post). Check out the website here to order: https://www.boutiquelara.com/ or find out more from her instagram page boutiquelara_mu. There is currently a Mother’s Day sale going on for 10% on selected products, so it’s the perfect time to try one out.
Love and green vibes,
